sustainable
urbanmac chooses to use macrocarpa because it is widely recognized as a smart sustainable timber choice. Macrocarpa is an exotic timber, not a NZ native, and can be 90% sourced from sustainable plantations. Plantation grown timber is great for our environment as trees suck up those nasty CO2 emissions.
natural properties
Equally important, macrocarpa has some amazing natural qualities as it naturally resists insects, borer, termites and pests, making veges flourish without the need for toxic pesticides.
non toxic
Because it is naturally rot and fungus resistant, it doesn’t need treatment (aka tanalising),so no nasty chemicals leach into your soil. This makes it non-toxic and perfect for growing organic veges.
strong
Macrocarpa is incredibly strong and durable, and it has similar structural strength and durability compared with H3 radiata pine. Unlike pine, it doesn’t need treatment, again making it a much better choice when using timber to grow produce.
durable
Macrocarpa is a natural product, that lasts! Macrocarpa is incredibly hardy in the weather, and in an outdoor environment, left untreated macrocarpa will last from 20-50 years. Our outdoor furniture range can handle the weather and could last up to 50 years! Our garden box range, is also left untreated, and should last around 8 years, when in contact with soil. That is GREAT value for money.
