Holly Jean and Rico Brooker started urbanmac in 2008, because of Holly’s dream to be an urban hippy and grow her own veges at a sweet urban pad (and have chickens).  Rico wasn’t thrilled on the idea of his new wife floating around in muslin cloth but agreed that they should find a way to grow veges in their small Parnell apartment. Holly cut some macrocarpa and proceeded to “make her own garden box” (Rico actually made it!).  They quickly realised they had the ability to enable fellow ‘urbanites’ in New Zealand to live their own dream of a self-sufficient lifestyle in the city for themselves. They wanted to encourage their young crew to get amongst the muck and embrace organic gardening as a lifestyle choice, in Auckland City!

urbanmac believes that urbanites can take responsibility to preserve the environment and maintain their busy city lifestyles.  We believe even in Auckland City urbanites can play a small part in living a sustainable, natural life, while living in an environmentally credible way, and eventually self-sufficiently.

And we aim to make it as easy as possible!

Our raised garden beds come in a range of sizes, and uniquely in a kitset form:  all the holes are pre-drilled, and the stainless screws provided.  We sell delicious, nutritious bags of organic eco soil, which can be delivered with your kitset garden box, to make setting up your garden super easy!

urbanmac also specializes in beautiful kitset macrocarpa outdoor tables and bench seats at a very affordable price which are extremely good looking! uber chunky and super hot. Our tables weigh almost as much as an elephant, but again come in kitset form, locking together safely with dowels.

We donate 5% of all urbanmac profits to the Save the Children Organisation.  We love that we can use our profits to play small part in contributing to the community, especially in helping protect and nurture the most important asset in Aotearoa- our children.
